I took an edible and got a facial. Here’s why you might want to try it too.

Facials have always been a part of my reset ritual. Monthly, weekly, or really just whenever my skin starts telling me that it needs a little more care. I’ll book an appointment with an esthetician I trust, or I’ll carve out an hour in my own bathroom. A couple of years ago, I started adding a new step to the process: getting high.

It wasn’t really intentional at first. I smoked a little before a facial one time. I needed something to help me drop into my body, and I ended up realizing how good everything felt. The steam, the scent of the cleanser, the way my esthetician’s fingers moved across my skin. It was the best kind of multi sensory experience.

Because I’ve always been mindful about where I bring the scent of cannabis, I started swapping flower for edibles. I love the way weed smells, but I also understand that not everyone does. And most facial spots are pretty quiet, intimate, and curated down to the last eucalyptus-scented detail. I didn’t want to be the one who threw the vibe off.

My most recent facial happened at Spencer’s Spa in NYC(highly recommend.) The space itself is visually stunning. The lobby of Spencer’s is modern, warm, and calming. I took a Camino gummy 30 minutes before my appointment, and sipped tea in the lobby until I was guided to my room. By the time I was lying down in the treatment room, the edible had peaked, and I was floating.

Everything felt more intense—in the best way. The smells. The music. The coolness of the serums. The warmth of the steam. The gentle pressure of fingers across my jaw. I couldn’t tell you what time it was, or what was next on the schedule. I was in my body, fully.

I’ve had good facials. Great ones, even. But this? This was a full-on transcendental skincare experience. Edibles brought me to a state of presence I didn’t know I needed. I walked out feeling like I’d been somewhere holy. And my skin? Glowing, obviously.
